Toothpick

How a toothpick saved my life

Today has been a harrowing experience. As I was relishing a succulent piece of steak for lunch, a sudden jolt of agony erupted in my throat. I choked, my airway obstructed, gasping for breath as my face turned crimson. Panic clawed its way through my mind; I was choking to death.

It was then that I recollected, somewhere in the recesses of my mind, that toothpicks could serve as a life-saving measure in such situations. With trembling hands, I groped through my bag in search of a toothpick, and fortuitously found one. With shaky precision, I endeavored to dislodge the blockage. But my first attempt was futile; I was fading, my consciousness ebbing away.

In that moment of despair, when it seemed as though death was imminent, a sudden motion dislodged the piece of steak, and I was able to breathe once again. The relief was overwhelming; I collapsed on the ground, wracked with spasms of relief and adrenaline.

It is astounding to me that something as insignificant as a toothpick could serve as a lifeline in such a dire circumstance. It is a humbling reminder of the fragility of life, and how critical it is to be prepared for exigencies.

Henceforth, I shall carry a toothpick with me always. One can never be too prepared, for the unexpected lurks around every corner.
